Awards & Accolades

Teddy Talks: A Paws-itive Story About Type 1 Diabetes has been named among the best in family-friendly media, products, and services by the Mom's Choice Awards.®

Vanessa Messenger’s picture book story, Teddy Talks: A Paws-itive Story About Type 1 Diabetes, is a simple but informative approach to teaching young readers about this condition. Each part of the treatment, monitoring, and care that Emily must pursue constantly is shared by this charming puppy with a touch of humor and, at the same time, an educational approach.

The key to any human condition is good, healthy eating habits and lifestyle, and Teddy enjoys helping Emily in every way he can, even running with her outside and eating (sharing) any healthy foods she drops from the table. The book begins with a short glossary of terms to help the reader understand, and it is beautifully illustrated.

“An empowering introduction to a common but underrepresented disorder.”

“The story focuses strongly on its mission of introducing the disease to those who are unfamiliar.”

"This book will show kids with and without diabetes that love, acceptance, and excitement are possible for everyone–and that health conditions do not have to define anyone’s life."

“Parents will want to choose Teddy's lessons as a read-aloud to help explain and explore the medical facts imparted in this fun story, which lends to interactive education and leisure read enjoyment alike."
